OVECHKIN VIDEO TRIBUTE 2008/2009 (Quotes inside)

Ovechkin Quotes:

“I don’t really think about the contract right now. I just think about my game and what I have to do better and that’s it.”

“Nobody ever tells me to give them a pass or anything. My job is to score goals, and if I don’t shoot the puck, I can’t score goals.”

“That’s hockey. You never know what’s going to happen. It’s a tough sport. No tooth, a broken nose, but I’m looking good [laughs].”

“Today was a special day,” Ovechkin said with a smile. “I broke my nose, have stitches (and) score four goals. Everything (went) to my face.”

“I’m okay. Russian machine never breaks.” (after being hit on the leg with a shot)

“I saw something white coming at me. I thought, ‘Damn, he got me.’” (on the shaving cream incident)

“It was because I didn’t score and I had lots of moments. Finally I score goal, and I say, ‘Thank you, God!’ And we win game.”

“I think it’s the best moment of my career. I play on a good team in the best league in the world.”

“Everybody in my country is jumping and drinking lots of vodka. We did it and we beat a great team.” (following Russia’s win over Canada at the Olympics)

“I’m having a lot of fun and love the NHL! For all my fans in Russia and in Washington I hope to bring the Stanley Cup home to you soon.”

“That was lucky. Best score, oh yeah. I just went down and try shoot and score goal. Clark came to me and said, ‘You scored,’ and I said, ‘Wow.’ I saw replay, it was beautiful.” (on his 32nd goal)

“If I win the bonus, I’m glad. If I didn’t win this bonus, it’s okay. I came here for my dream. If I want money, I could stay in Russia and make three million bucks.”

“When I see a little boy, I remember when I was little and I used to stand and wait for some guy I would go to after a game. They are fans, and they want my signature. They live in Washington, and they are fans of our team. I think if I signed 10 signatures and there were 20 more fans waiting and I didn’t sign for them also, they would want to know why, and I would feel bad. If you have time, why not sign them all?”

“If I’m playing hockey, I want to win all the (trophies) I can.”

“For me, it doesn’t matter where I play. If coach says I must play goalie, I will play goalie.”

“If people compare me to Michael Jordan, I’m glad.”

“I want to win the Stanley Cup. I want to be the best, just the best. I must work. I must learn. Help my team. Hockey is my life, you know. If I do not play hockey, I do not know what I do.”

“My weapon isn’t my shot. It’s me.”

“I’m going to play as much time as they give me. I’m only 20, and I have a wagon and a carriage full of power.” “When I have a chance to shoot, I like to shoot it. I love scoring goals. But I’m trying to help the team win games. If we win and I score, I’m really happy.”

“I saw the rebound and when the puck came to me, I said, oh my God, puck, I must shoot.”

“Let’s wait and see [who will receive more attention] at the end of the season.”

Hockey Trade Rumours and Free Agent Report – Bryan Berard looking at KHL

Hi gang, Rick Ostler here with OHL Hockey News, bringing you News and Views from the Ontario Hockey League as well Junior Hockey worldwide. Unable to find a job in the NHL, former OHL Hockey star and No. 1 NHL draft pick Bryan Berard is probably headed to Russia to play in the Continental Hockey League (KHL).

Canadian Hockey League Jerseys For Sale

Berard is still waiting for some NHL teams to finalize their plans, but his agent, Tom Laidlaw, confirmed KHL teams are expressing interest in the puck-moving defenseman.

The Tampa Bay Lightning, needing a veteran defenseman, considered Berard, but then decided to stay with their current group.

Based on other signings, Berard, who wasn’t re-signed by the New York Islanders, could expect receive $1 million take-home pay for one season playing in Russia. In terms of after-taxes earnings, that would be more than double what he would earn in the NHL.

Berard, who had played for six different teams in his last seven NHL seasons, probably played sharp enough in Philadelphia’s training camp to make the Flyers. But Philadelphia essentially had too many players under contract to be able to sign him.

Two teams that are looking for a defenseman are Ak-Bars Kazan and Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, and Berard knows Yaroslavl forward Josef Vasicek, who played with Berard on the Islanders last season. Former NHL player Alexei Yashin is also on Yaroslavl, currently in fifth place in the 24-team Russia-based super league, also has former Anaheim defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski

According to the Dynamo Riga website, Yaroslavl has the the KHL’s sixth-highest payroll at $40 million. Ak-Bars Kazan has the highest payroll at $55 million. Is it a coincidence that the highest payroll is just below the NHL salary cap at $56.7 million.

Former Pittsburgh Penguins player Alexei Morozov is leading the KHL in scoring, and former New York Rangers player Jaromir Jagr is fourth in the scoring race with 10 goals and eight assists in 14 games. Former Minnesota Wild player Branko Radivojevic is also among the scoring leaders with a point-per-game average. Thanks to the source; Profile – USATODAY.com
