OHL Victory – Game 3 ADT Canada/Russia Challenge
OHL Hockey News from Guelph, ON – Cody Hodgson had a hat trick and John Tavares scored twice as a team of Ontario Hockey League all-stars beat Team Russia 6-3 on Thursday in Guelph, Ont., in Game 3 of the ADT Canada/Russia Challenge.
Hodgson, who plays for the Brampton Battalion, scored two of his goals during a three-goal outburst in the third period that sealed the win, giving Canadian junior all-star teams a 2-1 record in the six-game series against Russia.
Russia split its first two games against all-stars from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League earlier this week.
Dale Mitchell (Windsor Spitfires) scored the OHL’s other goal.
Russia’s goals were scored by Nikita Klyukin, Evgeny Grachev and Evgeny Dadonov.
The game was tied 2-2 after the first period and 3-3 after 40 minutes, but Hodgson put the OHL ahead for good with an unassisted goal 2:58 into the final frame.
Mitchell scored at the 9:22 mark before Hodgson, a centre selected 10th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2008 NHL entry draft, completed the hat trick with a power-play goal at 12:57. He added an assist for a four-point night.
After a rematch against the OHL stars on Monday in Niagara, Ont., the Russians will wrap up the series with a pair of games against an all-star team from the Western Hockey League, with games Nov. 26 in Swift Current, Sask., and Nov. 27 in Prince Albert, Sask.
